It's hard to believe I've been teaching online for two and a half years already-- it's been a rewarding experience. I also teach part-time at the newly mintedArt Institute of Austin, where I've had the rare opportunity to meet a handfulof my online students in person. :-)

I currently rent a studio in the arts district where I paint. My work involvesoil painting, drawing and photography, but the common thread is the human impacton a changing landscape as we continue to mold it for our use. I try to expressthe emotional impact of man-made landscapes--some urban, some rural--throughthe study of light and color. Public spaces interest me because they are eitherso pedestrian and perfunctory in nature that they are either taken completelyfor granted or so overlooked as to appear abandoned.

My family comprises my husband of two years who is working on his PhD in Physicsat UT Austin and our two cats, one older easy-going black cat and one spunkywhite kitten. I'm an outdoorsy adventurous person--love hiking, backpacking, cycling and road-trips. I'm also into cooking a wide variety of ethnic vegetarianfoods.

I love online teaching because I find my students to be a ready source of creativeinspiration, lively discussion and ever-changing challenges. I like experimentingwith incorporating some of my on-line materials and methods into my on-groundcourses and visa versa. I find that no matter the learning environment, the qualityof the education is determined in great part by the quality of the educator andtheir supporting resources. And the support here at the Art Institute of PittsburghOnline, for both students and faculty, is truly amazing!
