2004 Soundtracks

The soundtracks were constructed in Garageband with loops, a mdi keyboard, and a guitar with an effects pedal.

I call these soundtracks because they have an obvious musical, or song sensibility and I was thinking of specific scenes in books I was reading when creating them.

This is different than the ambient works that I've created as backgrounds for installations. Communion has the sound of trickling water and breathing. LAB, the sound of breathing in one room, and electromagnetic audio recordings from the Voyager spacecraft in another. Antfarm has low-level speeded up feeding noises in the gallery, and undergound music playing on the telephone stereo. Convoy the sound of a jet passing from north to south and landing every five minutes.

New Apple I-life software has made it easier for people to create their own multimedia projects - producing videos and animations, composing music. This empowering capability of the new digital new tools is one of the ideas driving recent work.
