Visual and tactile. Why
is texture important?
Create a business card or other promotional object, such as a key chain.
It should reveal your capabilities to simulate or invoke the idea of
texture. It can be conceptual in the sense that an image or actual textural
object may not be necessary. It can be tactile: things can be glued, pasted,
applied. It can be temporal and temporary.
It doesn't have to be practical. School is a lab where
you can conduct experiments in creativity and imagination.
Example. Perhaps I create a business card out of ice and bring it to
the critique in a cooler. At first this sounds far-fetched. But a CEO
may want to throw a party with your business card ice cubes in the
drinks. If you want to create a market-savvy graphic piece, that is
fine too. I had a collection of business cards at one time. Don't reinvent
the wheel. Go out and study them first. Then make one. Be able to back
up your decisions on typography (point size, leading, display fonts,
serif, and sans serif)
