Description

Create at least 4 different duotones of 4 people you know, plus image of yourself. Place all of the duotone images on a canvas 72 dpi RGB maximum 600 x 800 in a design/montage. Save for web as a medium or high quality jpg

Why Duotones? Some clients can't afford 4 color printing, or they want a vintage look

Duotones in Photoshop

(just one way to do it - you may have your own method)

  1. Get digital images of people you know, including yourself. These may be from a digital camera, or scans. They must be photographic. No drawings.
  2. Bring these photos into Photoshop
  3. Create a blank RGB canvas 600 x 800 72 dpi. This will be your master page.
  4. Make a duplicate of each photo and close the originals. This maintains the integrity of your originals.

For each photo perform the following:

  1. Change to grayscale. You can't go into duotone mode from RGB.
  2. Change to duotone. You will see a dropdown menu where you can select monotone, duotone, tritone. Select duotone. You will be given 2 color choices. Make your adjustments and selections and click OK.
  3. Drag this image into your blank RGB canvas. Do this for all the photos
  4. Change the sizes and positions until you arrive at a satisfactory composition. NOTE: You need to adjust the levels after creating the duotone for more contrast. If you want to desaturate you have to convert your duotone into RGB mode.
