Proposal for 40 Second Ad/ Video Game sequence on an RPG called The RIFT From ReeProduction Studios

The Rift is a video game commercial with a commercial as the introduction. I think doing something very facetious might tie in the gamer who appreciates a different approach to gaming. The basic plot is that the Avatar of the god of heroes is sent to try and clean out a continent that is bathed in evil. There is a giant rift where the Demons just crawl out of. There is a lot of corruption on this continent and the main character often finds that he is baffled at the lack of morality, complacency and the fact that no one wants his help. So the main character must make himself a wanted hero in an environment that is pretty much apathetic and used to the status quo.

The opening to the game would be very akin to a real estate commercial. A demon in a blazer that is very much like a 21st Century retail agent will start the commercial with a very bright and fake smile (like all agents). She will introduce her company Dubious Deeds.

The script may go a little like this:

“At Dubious Deeds they care about their customers and they want to make sure that the buyer is satisfied with their transactions. Dubious Deeds takes the time and effort to insure quality and of course will do their best to match you with the perfect estate for you. After all the hunting and thrashing one should be rewarded with more than the ordinary. And wouldn’t it be grand to see on your wall the flawless soul just for you. Think of how impressed the neighbors would be? Imagine the look on that special someone when they wrap one around their finger? Dubious deeds understands that it is a buyers market, but with so many people willing to throw their souls away for tedious things like love, it can be difficult to find the soul that is right for you. That is where Dubious Deeds come in. We hunt down that special soul and broker the deal for you. We make sure that there are no loopholes so that you can bind that soul forever. We care about our clients. Those looking to sell their souls can also entrust that they will get the very best price for their immortal soul. Don’t believe us our clients include: Oprah Winfrey, Faust, Bill Gates, Julius Caeser and Dick Clark. We’ll make sure you get exactly what you deserve. “

Panels that would be vital, would be the shots of the pitch: Shots of souls on mantles. Shot of a demon proposing to a female demon, Overlord with an army of souls. Shot of the bartering of the soul. Shots of the various clients.. Shot of the demon real estate agent giving the thumbs up and the final frame of Dubius Deeds Logo with offices on the 3rd, 4th, 9th rings of hell and Weehauken, NJ. The catch phrase of the videogame would be: Can you be a hero to the people when no one wants a hero?

Project Tasks and Budget:

Task 1 – Conceptual Thumbnail storyboards

This task would include meeting designers of the videogame and marketing. The designers would give all viable material about the game, including characters and a demo disc of the game so that the artist would get a good sense of what is being pitched. The artist will then sign a non-disclosure agreement about the details he is seeing.

Once the client has agreed, the artist will begin working on the thumbnails. He will fax preliminary thumbnails to insure that they are on the right track. These faxes will be sent 3 times a day and will need responses by the same day. If there is no communication it will be assumed that the thumbnails are acceptable as is.

The thumbnails will be 25 panels produced within 3 days.

Client conference: 5 hours @ 30/hr = + travel cost (1/2 hotel if needed, gas/airfare, food up to $30 a meal).= $150

Faxes: $2 dollars a fax * 3 day *3 days = $18

Thumbnail Storyboard: $25.00 per BLACK & WHITE panel @ 25 panels = $650

Supplies for Storyboard: @ Cost

Task 1 Total: $818 + travel

Task 2 – Production Quality Storyboard

With the final approval of marketing, and design, the artist will proceed to create production quality storyboards. The meeting will include a team of specialists in production who will oversee the actual project. These will be on hard quality paper in full color. The number of boards needed will be discussed between the artist and production but the estimated amount needed should be around 33. The meeting is expected to take the full day and will be approximately 8 hours.

The total time to complete is 5 days.

Client Conference: 8 hours @ $30/hour = 240 + travel expenses

Production Storyboard Color: $55 a panel @ 33 panels = 1815

Supplies: Cost

Task 2 Total: $2055 + travel & materials

Total Proposed Cost: $2873 + travel & materials

Licensing and artistic rights of the production materials are as follows: While ReeProduction Studio retains exclusive right to use the work for production of commercial, the artist retains ownership of the original storyboard as well as the right to use the storyboard for the following purposes: portfolio,& promotional purposes for the artist. The artist cannot use the work for production of full length pieces or commercials. No other company can use these storyboards without permission of the company.

Assignment 3: Final Project: Project Specifications Write-up

Imagine that you have to create storyboards for a short animated project for the fictitious company in the "Target Market Exercise" of Week 3. Consider the same target audience, and create a proposal for the project. The project could be a trailer, TV spot, video game demo, or any other possibility that comes to mind.

Estimate the time it would take to create the storyboards, and workout a budget based on union scale artist rates of $50 per hour. While calculating the budget include all the expenses that will be involved. Refer to the chapter "Pricing" and "Licencing" from the text Storyboards, Motion in Art to workout the expenses. Identify ownership, usage rights, residuals, and any other obligations on behalf of either party. By Day 4, submit the project specifications and budget to the appropriate Discussion Thread.
