"Well here it is...all nice and complete. Again I chose Trustkill Records as my client, and from that I will be designing for the band 18 Visions. Trustkill is a small independent/major record label. It mainly carries bands of the punk/metal//emo genres. They are a privately run label, without all the nonsense found in the large corporate record companies. The band I will be working for is one of the original bands on the label and one of the most well known. They have long been established in the scene and have released numerous records over the years. They have also been hailed as one of the top bands in their genre. So Trustkill places much of their resources behind these guys just based on their long run in the business thus far. My design is based on the title of the record, Obsession. Since the band is a bunch of guys and the songs are based on girls for the most part I thought the most logical approach would be a woman as the target of the obsession. So my images focused on a girl on all pieces with the exception of the CD Jacket. I kept my colors to the reds and blacks, I feel that the dark colors fit in with the dark idea of obsession much more than bright colors would. I used cropped images of a woman throughout because it is way less boring than a full figure each time. It gives a very striking view instead of the normal everyday thing we see. In the inside of the booklet I have pictures of each band member, just so they are included somewhere in their CD, and I though more images of women could be a bit of overkill. The CD Jacket is different than the rest in the sense that it very graphic dominated rather than image heavy. I did this because it is supposed to be an alternate cover and I thought that if it were the same as the cover or even slightly similar than that would entirely defeat the point of designing it in the beginning, so I used simple graphics and textures to accomplish this. I had a good time doing this project, I haven't done a CD in forever, since packaging graphics over a year ago or so. But it was nice to get into it again. I set out to make a portfolio quality piece, because I am going to need to start getting all that together in the winter quarter, and I think that I accomplished my goal." |
