Brent Huber, Texture

I started with this image as a means to experiment then moved on to making patterns and embellishing them into textures, however, none seemed to have the appeal of this image.

This is the general path to how I did this: Started with an image of my hand, copied, locked and hid the layer (fail-safe). Used the magnetic lasso and took the hand out of the background (fail-safe here again). Copied the layer and began to apply filters, blended the layers using multiply, applied some liquify, blended and merged, copied, more filters, some texture, merged again, copied and continued to in this manner until finally applying a texture layer. Then applied a pattern fx and a outer glow and then rotated the image 90 degrees.

As I was applying the filters, I kept returning to a dark and stone look, the plaster effect under filters|sketch was applied multiple times and gives the splotched look. The liquify gave the streaks. Then all the layers were flatted... a mistake, it made it harder to fix a highlight I didn't like later.
