Project Management Plan

Following are the plans by week for completing the children’s book project.

Week 1 – Project Initiation/Project Planning
1) Complete Project Proposal and have approved.
2) Gather any previous work done on this project and determine which parts might be helpful for this illustrative effort.
3) Determine resources needed for both research and production.
4) Obtain story in as complete a form as possible.
5) Begin to determine research necessary and start working on some of the research.

Week 2 – Project Planning
1) Complete list of illustrations – Divide story into 2-page spread increments and determine amount of coverage for illustrations. From this information, make up a list of illustrations that matches the page text.
2) Complete research plan
3) Complete preliminary research and keep file open for ongoing research.
4) Begin illustration line drawings (Characters, dress, rainforest foliage, etc.) and character development.
5) Determine illustrative colors and style
6) Complete Database Matrix Spreadsheet
7) Produce facial views of front, profile and rear Caucasian girl with
hair style and show 3 facial expressions.

Project Production

1) Move into full production of pencil drawings for pages and scanning of illustrations.(preparation of illustrations for painting process) and Develop streamlined painting procedures.
2) Begin painting process where possible.
3) Gather ongoing comments from Eric, Jeff, class, and project associates.
(Begin file for changes and corrections to be made during final cycle.)
4) Complete illustrations with painting process and in page layout at a rate of approximately 6 per week. (According to list of illustrations.) Some will be large and some small, so the work should average out. By end of week three there should be a minimum of 6 illustrations complete (more if I’m really really fast).
5) Prepare mid-project report.

Week 4 - Project Production
1) Continue with production of illustrations. (12 illustrations completed by end of week 4) Being a bit ahead of schedule at this point would be a plus, leaving time next week for changes and corrections before final assembly.
2) Gather comments from Eric, Jeff, class and project associates to add to file.

Week 5 - Project Production
1) Move into final production, proofing and correction cycle. (18 illustrations should be complete by end of week 5)
2) Assemble all graphics with text in pages.
3) Gather comments from Eric, Jeff, class and project associates to add to file.

Week 6 (3 days)– Project Completion
1) Do changes, proofing and final editing (notes from changes and corrections file)
1) Complete final presentation.
