student 1: I will create the identity package for my event production company. Currently the working name is "Pilot" and the logo is a small blue flame; I will upload this in the next thread. This will include a reworked logo and business card as well as a campaign for an upcoming event. This will likely include a digital mailer, snail mail mailer, bulletin, and postcard type flyer. I would also like to create an event plan book; this would include the layout of the venue, where everything is placed, and all the logistical information presented in a visually appealing report type handbook. I visualize this handbook to be pocket sized so the staff could easily carry it around.
student 2: To create and design wedding invitations and their matching reply card, save the date card, table card, name cards and favor packaging and thank you cards.
Research. I will research wedding invitation books, websites, magazines to see what styles and trends I think have worked successfully. I will put together a theme and design a package. I will also research different papers and printing methods used for invitations.
Design Process. I will brainstorm ideas and possible color schemes. I will then create some thumbnails using some of ideas and come up with several sketches that I think are my strongest. I will put together different images I may want to use for invitation. I will narrow ideas down to two possible themes. I will also experiment with different papers, typefaces, colors and printing methods.
student 3: Three Ideas
1. An NHL hockey campaign consisting of print advertisements, billboards, and other signage, to promote the league playing again. (Last year the NHL was on strike, forcing to cancel the entire season.) The Campaign could go into further detail by selecting teams throughout the league, maybe one from each division, to direct the ads specifically towards their fans. The rules of the game have also changed, so this could be incorporated into the ads.
2. Designing a book, compiled of stories written by mother that she has submitted to her local newspaper, along with illustrations created by myself to complement her 'happy little stories'. This would be a light-hearted, but entertaining coffee table book. The stories consist of everyday happenings in her life, to our travels, to family and friends etc. As I mentioned she currently submits her short stories to her local newspaper, however, I also have her daily emails that could also be incorporated into the book. The design would entail coming up with a title, designing the masthead, layout, and overall 'feel' for the book.
3. Re-Design the corporate identity for the Hilton Head Health Institute. This would include the logo, letterhead, signage, brochures, direct mail pieces, possible advertisement, and basic layout for their website. My sister currently works at this facility. It is basically like a fitness & nutrition camp for adults. Their look is quite outdated, and I may have the opportunity to actually do work for them in the future.

My self-assignment proposal is to create an Identity for a painter named Chad McKenzie. He is a graduate of Chico State University and has been a friend and co-worker for a while. He is looking to show his work as well as work on commissioned art. This is a serious bid and I look forward to the challenges ahead. My plan is to Develop and Sell Chad McKenzie as an artist to Galleries and Interior Design firms in order to boost his freelance career.
I feel that by accomplishing this task, I will have a better expectation of the entire branding process, which will help me achieve my goals as a designer.
RESEARCH: I am going to set up meetings with gallery owners, interior design firms to discuss what they look for in showing/selling artists works. I want to find out what types of solicitations they receive and how the process works. Chad has a peer, Roi James, http://www.roijames.com/, in Austin who is showing at a gallery in Austin on Saturday November 19th from 11-5. I will be able to meet and discuss his position as an artist so that I can gain some insight and learn more information about his personal marketing strategies.
METHODS: This is typically where I will brainstorm or use the Random Stimulus Response method. I want to create B2B collateral, Mailers, Business Cards as well as a Web Site. These will all be consistent with the brand Chad McKenzie and will allow us as a team to set up and market his work.
SKETCHES: I will have any available as needed.
