I can;t wait to finish my new self portrait. Huge difference already and i am only partially done. Btw .....honestly, so far your the best teacher I have had by far. Have a good one. Noel From: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Hello Jeff Prentice, this is Jonathan Huls. You were my Design and Technology teacher during my time at Art Institute when I strove for the Digital Design diploma. Searching through Google, I found your web site and noticed that many examples are still being used from that class and would like to say that I am honored to see my example still posted. As I mentioned in the class, your methods were great for the online student, and to this day it is in the top 3 classes that I enjoyed. I am currently going for my Bachelors degree in Graphic Design and am pleased that you were a part of it. Thank you. :) Amanda Small 7 Nov 07 4:51 PM MST Janice Doler 6 Nov 07 10:46 PM MST I have enjoyed every minute of this class. I have learned a lot from you. I appreciate all of your comments and critiques. Your student gallery is a great help. I really enjoyed viewing all of the other students work. It helped tremendously to understand what was expected. I saved your web site to my favorites and plan on checking it out often. Thanks again for all the help. I feel like I have learned so much. Steven Peierl 6 Nov 07 4:12 PM MST It's been great. I had a blast "adventuring" into the feild of still life and portraiture. It was scary at first, but I'll be able to cope with it now :P I also wanted to say thanks for the website you put together. I like to veiw some assignment examples before I post my own, just to get a grip on what is expected and whatnot, and it really helps. Good luck in all your endeavours! ~Steve~ 11/7/07 Thomas Shoemaker 5 Nov 07 9:35 AM MST Mr. Prentice, I just wanted to jot a quick note telling you how much I appreciated your class. I must admit that at the beginning of the course I was really starting to second guess my artistic abilities. It was an extremely unfamiliar and uncomfortable feeling to not „get it‰ at first. I had to lick my wounds several times in the beginning! =) But now after six weeks, I understand that you were simply trying to stretch us and make us grow as students and budding artists. I can compare it to military basic training, where the drill sergeants break us down so they can rebuild us stronger. In much the same way, I believe that you had to break us of our old habits, ways of seeing things, and the symbols that we have been so ingrained with, in order to show us how to draw and see things correctly. I appreciate the effort that you have put in as an instructor, and much like parenting- although you don‚t always get to be Mr. Nice Guy, you have shown us the correct way to do things. So, thank you! I honestly do appreciate it and I believe that I will benefit from all that you have taught us in many ways. Thanks Again, Kamra Conn Drawing cc112 SUmmer II 2007 Sent: Sat, 22 Sep 2007

You have a hard job and I commend you for your dedication to teaching. Patti kelly-fink From: Pat Pacoe In the future... Hey Jeff =) 16 Jun 07 9:35 PM MST 16 Jun 07 6:25 AM MST Thank you a hundred times over. The site you suggested is fantastic in showing other ways to present information without all the text blocks. I have appreciated your comments and direction more than words can say. You have inspired me and guided me these past weeks and the challenge to change my ways of laying things out awaits me. I have saved multiple sites from these weeks and of the classes so far I have appreciated you the most. You presented the rules in clear simple terms, but most of all you held us accountable. I have a soap box titled accountability, and it is good to see that there are leaders out there practicing this skill to a younger generation. Thank you and may life bring you all the best. Thank you! Jeff, I just wanted to tell you again how much I appreciated what you did for me in the Color Theory class. I truly appreciated it when we had to do a scan into photoshop for our first assignment in Basic Drafting. I learned so much more than just Color Theory in your class! I now have the confidence to tackle whatever comes and the Photoshop knowledge to back it up. Thanks again! Robin Richardson Jeff, Joyce Joseph 20 Sep 06 6:25 PM MST Jeffrey I love a challenge, especially when it has to do with design. Of the three years I've been at AI, You are the third teacher who has challenged my design skills and have commented on what feels like every one of my assignment posts. You are always involved and very insightful. I appreciate you very much as an online instructor. You are definitely worth the money. Thanks a bunch! Please let me know what other classes you are instructing online. ;-) Joyce Oh wow! That is pretty cool! Thank you for the suggestion! I actually

great creativity! Severine Jeff, Here's the signed release form. My apologies for it being so late! And thank you, I'd have to say that this is one of the best compliments I've ever recieved and your compliments and encouragement are very reassuring because for the most part, I doubt myself and how good my work is. lol, you could say I'm rather thick-skulled and in constant denial about it. Author Sue Van Hamersveld 15 Jun 06 7:30 AM MST Attached is my final Senior Project. I want to thank everyone for their input and comments. I have lots of good stuff to consider for our next creative meeting when we go over all the pages and see where we stand, and ideas for the future of the project. I've enjoyed working with all of you. To those of you who are graduating, YAHOO! The rest of us will muddle along till we get there! Good luck to everyone! Thanks Jeff for all your hard work. You've really been a responsive instructor in this class and given us all kinds of guidance, from templates to resources to design critiques. I think you are probably the most responsve online instructor I've had in an online course. Thanks again for making this a great experience!
scott hall des and tech sp I 06 To be perfectly honest this has been the most challenging class I’ve taken so far with AIonline. Jeff you have pushed me farther than any other facilitator has since I started taking classes. This of course has helped me to try and achieve a higher mark but has also made me a little crazy at the same time! :0) All in all I’d say this course has stretched me beyond my boundaries and my comfort zone and caused me to set the bar a little higher. I’ve not really ventured out into the realm of CDs and product packaging a whole lot in my limited experience but this course has helped my to understand the importance of constructing a design around necessary elements such as bar codes as well as legal, manufacturer, and distributor information. One hard knock I took was with the organization of files and images. Most of the time I’m a pretty organized person but this was the largest project I’ve ever done and has had the most elements. Right off the bat my files were scattered and it wasn’t until the third week that I was able to get things organized into something more proficient to work with. This caused me to use valuable time sifting thru a mess of files and took away from the design and development process. I’ve done a lot of work with different filters and effects that Photoshop has to offer and I’ve used the saturation, brightness, and contrast tools a little as well. What I’ve not done is used the more in depth tools to fine tune color, contrast, brightness, and levels nor have I done a lot of work with channels either. I did a little of this with this project but beyond that I’ve been tweaking a experimenting with photos and other images to get a feel and understanding of what these tools have to offer. It’s been a challenging five and a half weeks and it has truly been a growing process.
Jeff, I just wanted to say thank you, again - In the context of an entirely online classroom format, where interaction
is limited to faceless text and forums, thanks for being the -shidan
Hey Jeff,
Hey Jeff the wonderfull instructor that you were! How are you? I hope this email reaches you in good spirits. I am now enrolled in Perspective with Dan Swanson from AIO and I am having a ton of trouble. He never returns emails or comments on work. I remeber in Drawing you had posted a couple of perspective tutorials for us to view. At the time my computer was too slow to view them Since I have changed to dsl and I was tryig to access them from week two of the class and I was unable to get them to open. So my dear dear Jeff, I would love to reach out to you for assistance. Email me back please. Your the best! Julie Smith

Your critiques are wonderful and your patience is incredible. I learned a lot from you and I’m sure that the rest of my classmates did the same way. I enjoyed this class and I will miss it. I think we made a good team. I did my best and I hope my works represent that fact. I wish you all the best and please feel free to contact me anytime at franciscorivero@hotmail.com Good luck, f

:) Thank you, and also wanted to say thanks for putting so much extra energy into assisting us with the tutorial videos and whatnot. I have one other class this semester and don't feel like we're getting much attention, but you seem to definitely go above and beyond, and I appreciate that, especially this being my first semester. You have been very clear with your instructions and that is extremely helpful! Cheyenne
Reply E-mail author Mark as read The videos were a great help. Reading and practicing are great but
to actually see some things being done makes a difference. A picture
is worth a thousand words so videos must be worth much much more.
Thank you for taking the time to construct this video tutorial. It will be an asset to my drawings this week. I am very much a visual learner and have been doing quite a bit of internet research on three point perspective this week. Thanks again for doing this for us. Misty Charles
Reply E-mail author Mark as read Wow! thank you for making this tutorial, I really could have used this weeks ago! whom would I put in a request to?
Reply E-mail author I would love to see one on shading! That is what I am having the most problems with. Also would like to see one on how to use the picture plane window it mentions in the book. I haven't made one yet, and was wondering how to use it when I did make it. Down-loadable would be good also, I had a problem with the speed of the video, it kept breaking up on me. Thanks for the time you spent on this!
Reply E-mail author Jeff, The video looks really good. In about 10 minutes I learned a lot. I like being able to actually watch someone draw the hl and work with it. The hl is something I personally have had a real problem with. I do have a suggestion though. Why don't you try putting the easel on a table so that you don't have to kill yourself while you are drawing? Your instructions were very clear and I could understand every thing you said. Are you going to do more videos similar to this one? Val
Reply E-mail author Jeff, real good job! Along with streaming, I would love to see it as a downloadable.

E-mail author I really think you have a good thing going here. It really helped me to understand the horizon line concept lot better by being able to watch you actually draw it right there in front of me. I was having a hard time understanding all of the lines that were being drawn not only by you but by the others in class. was very confluzed (no I didn’t misspell that, I meant to write it that way ;D ) but the video helped me a lot. Thanks! Your not doing those for this class right? They are for another class you are teaching? Can we use them too? I think it would benefit the whole class especially for those of us who are visual learners. I think that is the only thing that has really frustrated me about taking these classes online . I am a very visual learner. I have a problem understanding what I am supposed to be doing unless I can see it being done. Thank goodness my sister has a degree in graphic design and she has already done all this. I ask her all the time to show me examples of techniques. Val >:)
I guess I didn't realize how little I have been posting
dicussion and critique statements. I have been trying really hard
on my drawings and it would appear I have been neglecting all of
the other aspects of class. I am glad to finally have the format
and size thing right finally. I guess I was just stressing that because
I tried really hard and I was not getting it right. I promise from
now on i'll get it right. I have been posting comments for this week
and will post more tomarrow. I saw that I missed the due date on
the disscusion questions, I was to worried about my drawings. Should
I send my answers to you via E-mail? Well thank you for the wake
up call and I look forward to hearing your critique of my latest
drawing. The video you posted was a great help and got me motivated
to do the drawing. Thanks Again Bill konarski
Reply E-mail author Mark as read More lessons!! I think it made the experience more personal. We

E-mail author View Entire Thread The tutorial on sighting is great, I learned alot that I was never taught. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on shading cloth or paper?
Reply E-mail author Mark as read I watch the tutorial and it help a million times better than the text alone. I think I understand now.
Author: Valarie K. Dermody 1. In your own words, describe your experience with sighting. I am glad that I am not the only one that has had problems with sighting. I actually had no idea what was being talked about when I first heard about sighting. After reading and seeing the instructional video that Jeff made I realized that it was something that I did already although I didn't do it very well or correctly. I have a hard time transferring the image I measured to the paper. I always try to make the images the same size that they actually are instead of making them smaller so they will fit on the paper. I think I am getting the idea and technique down though.

Date: August 2, 2005 11:01:49 PM PDT Hi Jeff, I know it has been a long while, you probably don't remember me with all the students you encounter. I had you for drawing back in November, then emailed you a painting when I was in color theory. I was just reminicing over my beginning classes and popped my head into the old threads. I wanted to say that through all the classes I have had here, drawing has been my favorite still and you have been, like the best instructor I have had. I have been working hard through all the classes and my drawing is getting better and better. I have taken everything I learned from you into all of my drawings and sketches. I just thought I would say hello and hope all is well, still in Mexico? Again, thanks for being such an inspiration and great instructor. Do you have a website to visit? Take care, Stephanie Timbrook
related to going to siggraph: I appreciate it that you informed us. Because of the structure of the class, a professor could have just done his own thing and the class would have suffered. I will continue to give as detailed feedback as possible in your absence. I feel like I am really growing in the class even though I am working through a lot of hard personal issues elsewhere. Thank you for being a dedicated teacher. Sincerely, Subject: Re: Concept development u05xf technology
