How do you trace a Photo in Photoshop?
- have your design open in photoshop
- open a foto you want to trace - resize it to fit the canvas you will place it on - you know, 600 x 800 for example
- copy the foto, go to the design and paste
- this creates a new layer with the foto in it that you will delete when done
- Add layer by clicking the plus icon in the layer window. Drag that layer on top of the foto layer. The foto will disappear - don't worry
- Change the opacity of the new layer to 60% by dragging the slider in the layer window - you can now see the foto rather grayed out
- trace using the paint tool with a brush size of your choice
- when done, change opacity to 100%
- delete the foto by clicking the layer and then clicking the trash icon in the layers window
How do you place this drawing in your design?
One way is to do the above steps but have your main layer with the design being the one you are tracing on instead of a blank, new layer. If you do this, and your design is on the background layer, then drag the background layer to the dupe layer icon in the layers window, and use that instead of drawing on your master. Click the eye in the layers window so you don't see the original background layer.
